We Build Strong, Durable Dental Crowns; What You Can Do to Keep Them That Way

Our great privilege at Smile365 Dental to help patients in and around Langley, British Columbia, preserve their natural teeth and rebuild healthy smiles that they are proud to show off! Dr. Harpreet Aulakh works closely with patients to design crowns that are indistinguishable from natural tooth structures in terms of both appearance and functionality. Our patients have peace of mind that their restored tooth will be as strong and durable as it is esthetic and natural in appearance.
What to Expect: How Long Do Crowns Last?
Once the previously decayed, fractured, or damaged tooth has been restored with a permanent crown, we will collaborate with you to start or maintain a healthy hygiene program. Consistent oral hygiene supports the long-term structural integrity, function, comfort, and beauty of the lab-made crown that replaces lost or deteriorated tissue and is visible above the gum line.
Home care and regular visits to our office are fundamental to good oral hygiene. Dr. Aulakh will examine your mouth at least once every six months or twice yearly. During these visits, one of our hygienists will also clean your teeth and gums using specialized dental instruments and techniques. Patients with risk factors for conditions like tooth decay, periodontal (gum) disease, and oral cancer are typically advised to visit our office more frequently for evaluation and professional cleanings.
Routine check-ups also allow us to discuss and demonstrate ways to keep the crown (and other dental work and teeth in the smile) clean more effectively and easily. Lingering food particles combine with bacteria to produce acids that eat away at the tooth’s protective enamel covering and promote the development of cavities and gum disease. We also encourage patients to refrain from habits or behaviours that can put undue stress on their crown or other dental restorations; for instance, chronic teeth grinding (bruxism) may cause chipping or fractures. Worn or damaged crowns allow bacteria and other disease-producing substances to enter the tooth and potentially re-infect it. As needed, Dr. Aulakh may discuss preventive measures, such as designing a custom nightguard to protect the crown from future damage caused by bruxism.
The Canadian Dental Association reports that dental crowns can last a decade or longer, depending on how you care for them. Many factors can either shorten or lengthen the lifespan of your crown. Smile365 Dental looks forward to getting your new crown to the best possible start and partnering with you on products and ways to extend its ‘life.’ Call us at (604) 409-8660 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Aulakh at our Langley office.
